The last decade has been garbage. The worst alot of people can remember:
2000 – TECH BUBBLE BURSTS, WE GET BUSH
2001 – 9/11
2002 – RECESSION
2003 – IRAQ
2004 – TSUNAMI
2006 – KATRINA
2007 – VA TECH MASSACRE
2008 – HOUSING CRISIS
2009 – MEGA – RECESSION, RIP Michael Jackson
Well its over! Its a new year and a new decade, so its time to set the tone for the next 10 years! Here are 10 ways to conquer your world and turn your whole situation around!
Wake up an Hour Earlier for 5 Days a Week
Its amazing the difference one hour a day can make. In that one single hour, you can accomplish every resolution and goal you set. Whether you spend that hour in meditation and prayer or at the gym or practicing your freestyle in the bathroom mirror, that one hour can change everything. You will regret all the hours that you wasted sleeping before!
Network
I used to hate the thought of networking. I didnt like or trust people, and I was an introvert. But my will to succeed overrode both those things, and my life was changed forever once I started to network. Think of it like this: would you rather build a house alone, or would you rather have help? If your goal is conquering your world, then you will need help – and lots of it. Thats what a network is there for, to give you the help and advice that you need but dont have. And once you have started using your network, you will also have to be useful to your network. Here are a few way to add value:
- Know who’s hiring in your network, even if you’re not looking for a new job. If somebody in your network is recently unemployed, pass the information on!
- Connect the people in your network. You might know two people that dont know each other but can benefit from meeting. If you know somebody is trying to get in shape, introduce them to your friend from college thats now a personal trainer. If you know somebody that designs websites, give them some business by introducing them to your homeboy that wants to create a music download website.
- If you know somebody that wants to buy a rental property, introduce them to the guy you met at the restaurant that runs a property holdings company
By adding value, you will become a hub: a go-to guy that people will seek out to expand their networks. And by adding those people to your network, you will add their network to yours.
Tap your Network
With every single goal you set, there is somebody in your network who is either trying to achieve the same thing youre trying to achieve – or already has. In the first case, tap those individuals so you have somebody at your side to encourage you and keep you on track. In the second case, individuals who have already achieved what you are trying to can give you valuable insight and advice that could save you a lot of time.
Learn
This year, stay up on current events, brush up on general knowledge (people that are relevant to your field, . In the second part of my Success Model post, I wrote about the types of knowledge one should acquire, as well as the cycle of knowledge acquisition that you should follow. Hit up that post, print it out, and put it into practice. Take a look at the non-fiction books in the World Domination webstore, and cop my book, The Evolution of a Hustler (to the right) to start you out on the right path.
Have Mandatory Family Time
For one hour per day at a minimum, give your family your undivided attention. In the course of building my empire, I was negligent in the family area. I would work at work, come home, open up the laptop, and go back to work. Nobody is so busy that they cant devote one hour to their family a day. If you cant get all your work done while at work, spend less time on eBaums World and at the coffee machine. Talk, ask questions, share your accomplishments that day, and play games with your family. That one hour has a great impact on how successful your household will be.
Save
No matter what your financial situation, you can and must save. Start with $5 a day, like I recommended in 15 Ways to Take Action TODAY! I started listening to Dave Ramsey in 2006. His advice was to save a $1000 emergency fund. I didn’t listen, and in January of 2007 the fuel pump went out in my BMW. Cost to fix it? $900. Later in the year, I had to suddenly change apartments (thats life in the Marines). Rent plus deposit equaled $1000. In 2008 I got into a car accident, and there was a lag between when the accident happened and when my insurance company could cut a check. Cost of repairs? A little over $1000. Had I kept a $1000 emergency fund on hand, I could have saved myself alot of heartache in all three cases.
Fix your Social Circle
You dont play with a bad seed thinkin you can change it. Is a healthy person going to rub off his good health and make a sick person well? on No it never works that way – From Pimpin’ Ken’s Pimpology: The 48 Laws of the Game
People tend to think there is no harm in who you spend your free time with, and find it hard to separate from the people that they have known since grade school. But your social circle is a powerful influence when it comes to what you can achieve and how fast you can achieve it. Theres a reason why people that suddenly become successful leave the hood and all the people they knew there: it’s because their traits and principles change, and their new social circle has to vibe with their new characteristics. This year, determine who you want to be, then surround yourself with like minded people. Its time to stop kicking it with the boys from the block that havent gone anywhere in life, stop going to the club with your thieving cousin, and if youre an ex-convict, stop hangingin around other ex-convicts (unless they too are trying to better themselves.) Surround yourself with the people that bring out the best in you and push you to be better.
Screw FICO, Focus on Net Worth
The only reason why people pay credit card bills and carry balances is they dont want to deal with harassing phonecalls from creditors, and they want to protect their FICO (credit) score. Your FICO score is a report card that tells credit card companies and lenders how good you have been to them. NOT HOW GOOD YOU HAVE FINANCIALLY BEEN TO YOURSELF! Rather than using your credit score as a report card, do a net worth worksheet once a month. Heres a very basic one that you can print out and use: Click Here. By building your net worth, you are paying down debt, getting rid of the temptation to use credit (by shutting those cards down), and amassing a big pile of cash. Youre taking care of yourself, NOT THE CREDIT CARD COMPANIES!
Finally get your body right
For some of us, that means going to the doctor, dermatologist, and dentist. For others, that means going to the gym. Whatever your goals, et this year be the last year you live with poor health, and let this be the last year you have “get in shape” on your Resolutions list! Use Bodybuilding.com’s 12- Week Transformation Guide to start you off.
Travel
I have been all over the world, both on my own and with the Marines. Traveling gives you a kind of perspective and education you cant get anywhere else. Seeing the way other countries do business and live life takes you out of the box that your hood sometimes traps you in. This year, go somewhere. It doesnt matter where, the only thing that matters is you get away. Go to Mexico City (its moderately safe, believe it or not), Belize, Canada, or the not-too-far-away UK. Get a passport, save a few stacks, and go! Here are some pics I have taken from my personal travels:
Drop It
Forgive past transgressions. Make up with that relative youre still mad at from things they did in 1998. Forgive and forget about anything anyone has done to cross you. Vengeance and spite are heavy burdens to try to carry – they tax you physically (in the form of high blood pressure), mentally (one negative thought produces another), and spiritually (after all, to forgive is divine). So leave your grudges, blame, and larceny in the last decade. Stop blaming other people, stop blaming yourself, and you will produce more positive energy.

Arthur-
I have been away for a while on vacation visiting family in the Midwest but I am now back (and loving the new banner!). I have began 2010 by first and foremost getting back in shape. Not working out consistently for the last 2 years is a mistake I am fixing in 2010.
Also my grind and resolve has never been stronger. I sold 3 ad spots on the 3 different sites today so I must say 2010 is starting out great! Glad to see things are going smoothly here as well. I look forward to more great post from you this year.

Good to hear from you playa! Me n u really gotta collaborate on this whole ad thing. I run a site called Teacup Terrier Times that I have been trying to monetize, so Im interested in a lil consulting advice. Stay in touch, playa and its good to hear from you!
I’ve been lurking on your site for a while now. But I had to give you props on this excellent post. I’ve actually been doing most of this, but there are several points that I will start living.
Glad you came outta the shadows! LOL. I really appreciate the support and wish you the best in 2010. Collaborate more often, playa!
As far as consulting goes, just shoot me an email with whatever questions you have. I would be happy to help out.

2010 is my year. Actually, I reserved the next 6 years. But 2016 is still available if anybody wants it.
You have really good advice. My favorite is “Drop it” – that’s perhaps the most challenging for a lot of people, but will relieve the most stress. I’m not sure about the waking up an hour earlier one though – I don’t get enough sleep as it is.
Peace out!
